Launching Maternity Foundation Inc. in the United States
We are proud to have launched Maternity Foundation Inc. in the United States to further advance the maternal and newborn health agenda.
The launch could not have been timelier. It took place during the United National General Assembly in New York last week where politicians, companies, and organisations from all over the world took stock of the progress made toward the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. Unfortunately, we are far from reaching goals related to women’s health and rights even though investing in these agendas are among the world’s best business cases.
For instance, preventing women from dying during pregnancy and birth can bring welfare gains equivalent to many billions of dollars each year. Additionally, investing in women’s health and rights is key to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals, building a better, healthier world for us all.
There is a need for new partnerships and new funding to help ensure safer births for more women and their newborn around the world – and that’s what Maternity Foundation Inc. in the US is all about.
Thanks to alle partners and friends supporting and participating in the launch, including MSD for Mothers, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), HE Toyin Saraki and The Wellbeing Foundation Africa, World Diabetes Foundation, Ferring Pharmaceuticals, World Economic Forum (Womens Health Initiative and Edison Alliance), IPE Global Limited, White Ribbon Alliance, International Confederation of Midwives (ICM), ICPD, Hempel Foundation, Every Mother Counts, Gina Barac- Bauer and Vilma Vale-Brennan.
